Enhancing diamond clarity facts

Very few natural diamonds come without having some internal imperfections, flaws and inclusions, and this is the main reason why jewelers enhance clarity of certain diamonds. By removing these imperfections and flaws jewelers increase not only the visual appeal but also the value of these treated diamonds.

Clarity enhanced diamonds are the result of different clarity enhanced techniques that were developed almost 30 years ago especially for diamonds. Through this article I will mention some of the most common techniques such as microscopic laser drilling and feathering.

The major difference between these two techniques is that microscopic laser drilling is all about removing imperfections while the fathering is all about hiding these imperfections by filling diamonds with a material which closely resembles the characteristics of real diamond. In fact feathering is one of the most commonly used clarity enhanced techniques. This method is basically about adding more flaws to make flaws invisible, in any case very interesting, and as said before commonly used technique.

As said before jewelers use clarity enhanced techniques to make diamond more visually appealing, by improving not only the look of diamonds but also its sparkle. In term of costs, the result of these techniques is natural visually appealing diamond which is approximately 40% to 50% cheaper than the price of an un-enhanced diamond with the same color and GIA clarity rating. Definitely an option to consider.

Some of you may doubt whether clarity enhanced diamonds are still the real diamonds since they have been treated by different methods. The answer is yes, they still remain the natural diamonds because jewelers haven't changed their chemical structure, the only thing that jewelers do is to mask the flaws. Saying that these diamonds were not real would therefore be like saying this is not the same person because she/he wears makeup.
